Thai Red Roselle
Hibiscus sabdariffa
The Thai Red Roselle is an early maturing hibiscus variety that thrives in hot warm conditions and can grow year-round in Hawaii. This cultivar doesn’t appear to be day-length sensitive and will flower any time of year.
Calyces (seed pods) are harvested, seeds removed, and are used to make a delicious hibiscus tea, very rich in Vitamin C.
Growing Guidelines: Sow 1/2” - 3/4" deep in 2.5 inch cells and transplant before roots get pot bound. Space plants 3-4 feet apart. Wider spacing creates larger plants which can grow to 3-4 feet high. Flowers mature from the bottom up. To extend the life of the plant harvest flowers continuously. Too much rain can cause a stem fungus.
