Also known as Siling mahaba (long chili) or Siling espada (sword chili), this sweet pepper is eaten green. It’s an essential ingredient in Filipino cuisine, including soups such as tamarind soup and taro leaf soup. A local favorite is pinakbet, a delicious local soup that also includes Cilli, eggplant, okra, tomatoes, bittermelon, long bean, wing bean, pumpkin, ginger, bits of pork belly, and patis or fermented fish sauce. This Cilli selection is very mild.
