This red-tinged Batavian head lettuce is highly heat-tolerant and bolt-resistant, making it one of the best lettuce varieties for Hawai‘i’s tropical climate. The sweet heads produce a crisp lettuce with minimal tip burn. ‘Canasta’ is the Italian word for basket, and this basket shaped lettuce is beautifully uniform, with a shiny, green interior.
Planting this lettuce at a 6” spacing, minimizes weed competition and allows you to harvest every other head within 30-40 days, leaving the others to mature to full size.
